03.25 march log
pit stops and sights from the past month: things purchased, experienced, read etc...
March felt like a mirror to January because why has this month been 2 months long? There has been so much happening cosmically, socially, and emotionally this month I find myself once again just grateful I survived—which is why I find these logs so important because I definitely did more than survive.
This month was also a big transition through how I think about this space. I have finally opened myself to discussing my pieces IRL. Which has had—thus far— nothing but wonderful results including people I have just met letting me know they read and enjoy my writing?! You all are so sweet to me.
I am also open to being challenged and questioned—which is a big huge step that requires so much self security, and as I said in my last weekly Commute—every time I hit “publish and send” I only become more secure.
Thank you always xoxo! Let’s get into March!
🎨 ART
I am slacking big time on going out to see new exhibitions or productions so far this year. I will give myself grace in that March quickly became a month where I needed to focus my energy on rest & physical movement, but still.
I visited Black Histories of Philadelphia at the Free Library with friends and learned more about Dox Thrash and even Addy Walker, yes the American Girl Doll.
📖 BOOKS
I also did not read many books in March—woof.
I did read Martyr by Kaveh Akbar. What a depiction of human suffering—some at the hands of yourself, but how it’s inextricably linked to our experiences in childhood with our caretakers. I found myself often times frustrated with Cyrus our man character, but not without empathy—of knowing the experience of a grief shroud so opaque no light can be seen. The end was so complex—I was happy and dissatisfied—sad, frustrated and happy to see him realize the love in his life. It was such a human novel. “Love was a room that appeared when you stepped into it.”
We read Flux by Jinwoo Ching for book club, and I did a re-read of You Made of Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi. I did however read a lot of great substack pieces so I will link them below.
love, love, love and everything in between* one of my favorite pieces of all time
🛍️ PURCHASES
The Miffy x Baggu collab got me and my wallet…
Also this Miffy x Retrospekt film camera that I am excited to have forever and now capture life on film!
🎟️ ACTIVITIES
Bowling ended in March and that makes me sad but we have already had a game night and have another one already planned for April!
Went to the Philadelphia Flower Show—which is so painfully overpriced even if it is very cool once I am there—just those tickets are asinine tbh
Took two days off at the start of the month and went bowling and to dumplings with a friend on a Thursday afternoon—100% recommend!
Went to an open craft club with Let Me Know Club at Tattooed Moms
Decorated my sneakers with Room Shop Vintage x Yowie
Walked John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge
☕ PLACES:
The Black Sesame Match with Oat from Jiggy Coffee is so good
The pickled green beans at Huda lowkey outshine the sandwiches
🏅 SPORTS
I went off off in the gym this month—literally gym rat status—any time I felt overwhelmingly mad or sad I took my ass to the gym. Full rat. Full gym lol I am not tall enough to be a stallion but I am gonna try to be a pony!
🎧 MUSIC
Hope Handwritten by Hope Tala is such an incredible, unreal, relatable album I have had it on loop this month. At this point my neighbors probably know the lyrics
💖 THINGS I LOVE
Being hot—I mean this literally
Spring
Leaning into giving myself grace before I even get frustrated
Well—despite the multiple eclipses and retrogrades we made it to the other side of March! See you in April!
I'm honored to have gone to look at art with you! And I will definitely be trying Jiggy Coffee. Also I had my first espresso tonic and it was amazing
