I’m Bee, a pretty inconsequential communications professional living and working in the Greater Philadelphia region. My background is in theater and emotionally immature parents, so stories whether I am telling my own or reading others have been a central theme of my life.
That’s what this place is— somewhere to tell my endless story.
Feel free to follow me on instagram as it is my most public facing platform. You can also find me across all social media as @/selfbybee but most of the time I am just posting silliness. If you find yourself interested in discussing queer literature I also co-organize #QueerBooksPhilly.
Some identity things that may inform your navigation of this space: I am a fat, Black, non-binary lesbian in my 30’s.
What is Commuting and more importantly why?
Commuting is a double entendre. Commuting is the space inbetween where I will travel through the different versions of myself via past experiences, understanding new information through reading, researching and living, to the version I will be at the time of publication. My writing can fall anywhere along that journey: the start, middle and/or end.
It is also the place in which I reduce the sentence of my shame, my fear, and the volume of my suffering. Think of Commuting similar to the experience riding public transportation. You can unwind and self reflect, you can dissociate and read a novel, sometimes it smells like someone took a p*ss and occasionally there is someone far too inebriated for a Tuesday afternoon screaming at you.

What to expect
There will be a painful amount of self reflection and dissecting the human experience as someone living with PTSD and CPTSD. But there will also be joys, highlights, recommendations, and more! All subscriptions are free for now—when I crack 100 subscribers I may offer tiers once again.
Commuting will be published every Wednesday as it is my least favorite day of the week and it feels cheesy but appropriate to place it in the middle of the week.
