Cannot say I loved my first week of February, but I can say I survived it. Small wins (lol) kidding…kinda. Here are the songs that helped me get through this week of yet again more unprecedented times that I had to be aware of while still being forced to clock in and respond to e-mails!
I am dedicated to keeping my posts free, but if you would like to buy me a coffee (like this will literally become my coffee fund, I love coffee) you can support me here.
Someone by Min Jiwoon
An upbeat song about yearning is simply going to do it for me, every single time. Jiwoon gave us light-hearted, electro-pop goodness with Someone and I need more people to appreciate it. If you are a stickler for knowing the lyrics in English I …don’t know how you are here on my page but here you go. It’s so crystal clear what they want the energy of this song to be —a light hearted manifestation for what you want in a new beau!
Someone, who loves me just because. Someone, who brings out the best in us. Someone, who shows thеy care. There gotta bе somebody. Is that too much? It's all I'm really asking for.
Moments by MOIO
Vocals. Vocals. Vocals. Vocals. WOW. Something about this—and I cannot put my finger on it exactly gives—scrolling on tumblr, with my red beats on, in my college apartment. It’s both nostalgic and feels so uniquely MOIO and artists that are able to deliver in that way are always instant hits for me. I will be listening to more MOIO!
Say by keshi
I truly cannot say why I have not been on the keshi train until literally this song, but I am happy to be here and ready to catch up. Bass. You know me I am always going to point it out and I really like it with the electronic elements in this song. It adds a layer of funk to the robotic elements. His voice is really nice so again, not sure what took me so long—it may be that his social media persona always proceeded his music for me. Either way, I look forward to listening more!
Tyrant by Beyoncé ft Dolly Parton
You know that feeling when you hear a song and go, “yeahhhhh this is about me.” That’s how I felt this first time I heard this song (and Desert Eagle). The second the beat drops in this song I make the nastiest face and I believe because it speaks to the very core of my existence. If you are trying to understand how or why—then you simply just don’t get me like Bey does and that’s okay! We are two 🐝s buzzing at a frequency you could never comprehend.
Abracadabra by Lady Gaga
You all weren’t there for Rain on Me like I was! I still need to get my lick back by going absolutely wild to that song in a club singing at the top of my lungs, but I digress. I think Gaga just knew I need her to be electro, pop, and weird af again with sickening choreography. Thank you Gaga. As a queer who taught multiple hoards of theater kids the choreography to Bad Romance, Judas, Born this Way, and the like—we, I needed, this level of artisty and cuntestry to return.
CHIHIRO by Billie Eilish
I know this song is “so last year,” but I need it to get the Birds of a Feather and Lunch treatment. I would call myself a casual Billie listener. I will listen to her projects in their entirety frequently but I wouldn’t say I keep up with her at a dedicated level. Something about this song feels the most Billie to me. It feels like an amalgamation of her debut sound—with the maturity that can only come with age. And her falsetto is simply always going to do it for me. This is the song I would pick if someone said, “send me a song to get into Billie.”
“Well that’s the Routine Refrain I hope you enjoyed it, cause I know I did!”
